Committees and their Members

The Awards Committee’s duties are: to nominate, qualify, and select candidates for the Gold Leaf, Tree Commemoration and other similar awards presented at the Annual Meeting. This Committee is scheduled to meet in June for nominations and in August for selection and presentation to the Executive Committee. The Committee is responsible for design, purchase and presentation of the awards that are presented at the Annual Meeting.

The Education and Research Committee’s duties are: to seek out research projects of concern to the membership and report findings for publication in the newsletter or other forms of dissemination. This committee primarily communicates electronically or by mail. The Committee should submit at least one article or publication for printing in each quarterly newsletter to the Newsletter Editor. Articles are due the first of February, May, August, and November. The committee should submit a report of current research of interest in Kentucky at the annual meeting to members.

The Library Committee’s duties are: to organize, store and distribute to the membership any and all library materials upon request at cost of mailing. The committee must purchase new publications or materials annually as budgeted ($500 annually) and submit an updated list to the Chapter Administrator in May and October for publication in the newsletter. This committee meets in March for acquisition and purchasing.

The Membership Committee’s duties are: to recruit eligible members for KAA and ISA from various regions of the state and assist the Chapter Administrator in delinquent dues. This committee meets in December to set annual goals, in March to develop a plan of action and schedule events, visitations, mailings and/or other activities. The committee will prepare a report for the Executive Board in August and to the general membership at the annual meeting. 

The Program Committee’s duties are: to be responsible for the annual selection of topics and speakers for all educational workshops and conferences. This committee meets in June for planning and selection of topics for the next calendar year, in July for confirmation and scheduling, and in November for finalization. The committee will submit an annual report and calendar to the Board at the January meeting for approval.

The Arborist Certification Committee’s duties are: to review certification, policies and procedures annually, establish an exam schedule, and recommend possible speakers for certification workshops (Arborist, Utility, Tree Worker, etc.). This committee meets in November, reports to the Executive Committee at the March or December meeting.

The Tree Climbing Championship Committee’s duties are: to coordinate, administer and direct the annual chapter tree climbing championship. The committee is responsible for selection of a location, set-up judging, awards and solicitation and supervision of volunteers. This committee meets in April for selection of date and location, in May for confirmation and notification of candidates and coordination of information and materials and in June as needed prior to the event.

The Website Committee’s duties are: to develop, design, implement and continue maintenance of the chapter’s website. The committee meets as necessary to have the website up by August 2004. Otherwise, they meet annually in March for updates, in August for a report to the Board and presents a report with all upgrades to the general membership at the annual meeting.

The Promotions Committee’s duties are: to assist the Chapter Administrator in promotion of all meetings, educational workshops, chapter events and other chapter activities as needed. This committee will decide where the KAA booth will be set up and assists in keeping the booth up-to-date. They are also responsible for contacting members, volunteers, and media prior to events. They review press releases, authorize all advertisements as budgeted and distribute literature as necessary. This committee meets in February to schedule booth display dates and electronically 4-6 weeks prior to each workshop or event to coordinate promotion.

The Grant/Finance Committee’s duties are: to assist the Chapter Administrator in writing grant proposal(s) and determining budget requests. This committee meets in January to plan and in February to finalize budget (Kentucky Urban and Community Forestry grant is due in May).
